A word that goes in

Before the pandemic, I had traveled almost every day to meet candidates and representatives from clients. Before I went to the office in the morning, I visited one or two clients for lunch with the right person in the middle, met the candidate for one or two more minutes, and then later in the afternoon, after I returned to the office, I searched for the right position or talent, and then left work a little later in the evening.

1. Revitalization of non-face-to-face due to the COVID-19 crisis

In fact, when you do headhunting, you can't meet all the candidates that are connected here and there due to time. It was common practice to look at the profiles first, then call them first, talk to them, and then make an appointment.

After a while, I thought, "I don't know if I'm going to pass the client company, but you're going to call me to see the 'interview'." It was natural to meet him first. Moreover, when I thought, "I really like it, so I have to catch it," I put everything aside and went to meet him even after contacting him several times.

But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the "country" stopped us from doing these "meeting" things. Of course, it was inevitable, but at first I felt a little frustrated. Treating someone you've never met with only "phone or e-mail" didn't "feel well" in my head, so I talked to "A" and there was a confusion, as if I was mistaken for talking to "B" on the phone.

Of course, it worked out quickly by taking notes carefully. I wished I could have a solution like that, where you can log " calls," "text messages" and "mail" in a call center. Of course, I didn't buy the expensive solution, and I meticulously wrote it down on my Google calendar, which was annoying and cumbersome. I kept writing down unnecessary logs in case I got confused. Actually, there are times when I get confused, but that wasn't often the case.

Actually, before sending the candidate I recommended to the 'customer company', the first thing I met was the kind of 'courtesy to customers' that a headhunter should have until the 'COVID-19 incident'. Some customers were "scolding" the headhunter by saying, "Do you recommend the candidate without even meeting him?"

However, because of the time constraints, it was impossible to meet all the candidates, so I reversed the order a little bit, put the recommendations in first, and then the client asked for an interview, and they often "went around" with the person they were asked to interview, because that was practically the way it worked.

And sometimes you're completely different from "in terms of documents," and sometimes you're like, "I'm a little late to the client, but I've reported you in a separate way." For example, I didn't think I was on the phone, but I met someone who stuttered too much and didn't have one arm in their conversation.

2. The COVID-19 crisis is almost over, but it continues to revitalize non-face-to-face communities

However, it is very common now that you cannot meet a candidate even if you have an interview even though the COVID-19 situation is almost over. Maybe it's because I'm in the habit of working only in my seat, but I feel tired going around, and when I ask a candidate to meet, there are many people who are wondering why I'm going to meet him.

Candidates who ask "why do you want to see them" often say, "I'm busy this week, I'm on vacation next week, I think I'll be busier the week after." I don't know the exact reason, but I think it's somehow more difficult to meet candidates than before. Perhaps you've gotten used to the "non-face-to-face" style of convenience and efficiency you've gotten used to during the COVID-19 pandemic.

3. Conclusion

You might think, "Why do we have to meet a headhunter in this age of online development?" But I think it's necessary from experience. Because, in person, it's not that there are very different cases from what you expect.

Moreover, the intensity of impression exchanged in "Face-on-face meeting" is very strong. People who have never met before have very different feelings and memories, so I am sure that meeting and sharing this and that to build connections is good in many ways, not just for this one, but for the future.

And one more thing to note is that meetings with female candidates should be "selected by him" or "at a large, spacious, crowded open coffee shop" on the main street. It's a little distracting and noisy, which gives him more credibility and makes me feel comfortable.
